That does not mean every operator will face the same outcome at renewal, but it does mean generic cover may be less suitable for businesses with complex routes or specialised assets.

For truck owners, this issue should start with asset values. Replacement costs for prime movers, trailers, fitted equipment and technology can move quickly, especially when supply chains are tight after a major event. Underinsurance becomes a serious problem if the sum insured has not kept pace with market values or modifications. Operators reviewing their policies should pay particular attention to establishing a realistic sum insured, rather than relying on last year's figures.

Policy wording also deserves close attention. Weather-related claims can involve exclusions, excess structures, storage conditions, salvage arrangements and limits on additional benefits. These details can make a major difference between a manageable disruption and a cash flow problem.

Strong documentation may not remove climate exposure, but it can help distinguish a well-managed transport business from a poorly understood one.

Truck operators should review sums insured, check exclusions, confirm downtime arrangements and consider how quickly they could return to work after a major weather event. In a market where insurers are becoming more selective, preparation is increasingly part of affordability.
